Going to the movie theater is something I treat myself to almost weekly. There is something I love about reclining chairs, large buckets of buttered popcorn and watching my favorite actors on the big screen.
Roughly two weeks ago my family and I had the opportunity to see Goosebumps in theaters. Having personally been a fan of the Goosebumps book series, I was very excited to see this movie with my children. Watching as the books came to life on screen was so fun for me. Turns out I had an even bigger treat waiting for me when I was asked to meet the Goosebumps cast in person last week.
Jack Black is one of my all time favorite actors, so finding out I would be meeting him gave me goosebumps of my own.
Fun Movie Fact: Jack Black was the voice of Slappy in Goosebumps.
Sitting with the cast of Goosebumps, which included Jack Black, Odeya Rush, Dylan Minnette and Ryan Lee was like sitting down with several friends. I could immediately tell that they were a tight knit cast that enjoyed being together. This same feeling was portrayed on screen as well. The cast selection for Goosebumps couldn’t have been better.
In Goosebumps, teenager Zach Cooper (Dylan Minnette), upset about moving from a big city to a small town, finds a silver lining when he meets the beautiful girl, Hannah (Odeya Rush), living right next door, and makes a quick friend in Champ (Ryan Lee). But every silver lining has a cloud, and Zach’s comes when he learns that Hannah’s mysterious dad is in fact R.L. Stine (Jack Black), the author of the bestselling Goosebumps series. As Zach starts learning about the strange family next door, he soon discovers that Stine holds a dangerous secret: the creatures that his stories made famous are real, and Stine protects his readers by keeping them locked up in their books. When Stine’s creations are unintentionally released from their manuscripts, Zach’s life takes a turn for the weird. In a crazy night of adventure, it’s up to Zach, Hannah, Champ, and Stine to team up and get all of these figments of Stine’s imagination – including Slappy the Dummy, the girl with the haunted mask, the gnomes and many more – back in the books where they belong to save the town.
After seeing the movie in theaters, both of my children have begun to actively read the Goosebumps books. My son has even decided that for Halloween, he will be Slappy, which was oddly enough the character that scared him most in the movie.
Scariest Character: When asked, the cast all had different ideas about who the scariest character in the movie was, but one they could all agree on was the clown. During the entire movie whether filming or not, he would stay in character. The cast said that definitely made him a little creepy!
The film Goosebumps is one that is perfect for all family members. There are some moments that may be frightening to smaller aged children, but overall it’s a great mix of scares and laughs. Perfect for this Halloween season.
The character Champ played by Ryan Lee is absolutely adorable. He makes for the majority of the laughs, which is saying something when you’re in the same film as Jack Black. The first time you hear him scream, you can’t help but giggle. When I asked him if his scream was part of the audition process, he stated that it wasn’t. However, shortly after his first scream they knew they had something.
He also proudly owns that it is the actual way he screams when scared, making him just that much more adorable.
This movie is a must see for families. We are actually already gearing up to head to the movies for a second time to see it. This is one you won’t want to miss.
Can’t wait to hear what you guys think about it!
