I recently read that experts say between 75 to 90% of all doctors visits are for stress related conditions? That is an alarming number, to which I am definitely a part of. For that reason, I am always looking for natural solutions to help me to deal with stress and anxiety. It’s really like a full time job.
I was given the opportunity to learn about a practice called “mindfulness” through the book Mindfulness Workbook for Dummies.
Mindfulness Workbook for Dummies breaks down different techniques and meditations in a simplistic way that makes it easy to learn. Throughout the book I was allowed to experiment with the different ways to incorporate mindfulness into my life. Some of the ways included writing things down, while others were as simple as taking the time to include some deep breathes into my daily routine.
“You learn to notice the world around you, become more grateful for what you have, more kind and forgiving towards yourself and others, focus more effectively at work, home and in your relationships and enhance your physical and emotional health and wellbeing.”
I especially liked the way it worded” becoming more kind and forgiving to yourself”. If I have learned nothing else over the course of my life, I know that I am the hardest on myself. I notice that in my friends as well. I think it is human nature to be our own worst enemies and that needs to change.
In addition to the knowledge I have learned through the reading and exercises, this book also provided me with audio files to be downloaded. The audio files help to further teach how to reach mindfulness living.
Mindfulness is not something that can be achieved overnight, so I know not to expect a sudden change. However, if I work to incorporate the ideas and techniques that work for me, gradually I feel like I will begin to see a change in the way I think.
If I can turn even one negative thought into something positive, then I think it was worth the time to read this book. If you fall into the 75-90% of us that struggle with stress, anxiety and worry, then think about grabbing a copy of the Mindfulness Workbook for Dummies.
It’s funny how reading a book for dummies can make me feel so much more clued in.
I received a copy of Mindfulness Workbook for Dummies for review. I received no other form of compensation for my honest opinions.
