Anytime I begin a book, it is important to me that it grabs me right from the start. Since I had never read a Lisa Scottoline book, I wasn’t sure what to expect in her writing. It didn’t take her longer than the first chapter with Don’t Go to create a book that I knew I couldn’t put down.
Actually, I wasn’t reading, I was listening to the book on audio. That has become one of my favorite ways to catch up on my reading. It seems like I never find the time to sit and read for long periods of time. However, I am in the car a lot, so audiobooks work perfectly for my lifestyle.
Anyway, back to Lisa’s newest novel, Don’t Go.
Don’t Go follows the life of Dr. Mike Scanlon. When Mike Scanlon is called to serve as a military doctor in Afghanistan, he is forced to leave behind everything he loves. His wife Chloe and daughter Emily, as well as a thriving practice he created with his friends.
While Mike believed the war in Afghanistan would be the worst thing he could imagine, he soon finds himself fighting tougher battles at home. Facing circumstances that would try even the strongest of people, Mike learns about love, family and being the man he was meant to be.
Shortly into the book, I thought it was going to be a predictable read. I am usually really good at figuring things out when it comes to novels and movies. My husband always gets mad because I spoil the endings for him. However, Lisa Scottoline threw me for so many loops, that I had no idea until the ending about how certain scenarios would play out.
There were times during the audiobook that I was literally talking to the stereo in surprise. I love that at the ending of the book, she tied everything up nice and neat with a bow. There are no loose ends to keep me wondering or guessing how things turned out for the characters.
If you are someone who is tempted to read the last page of a book first, DON”T DO IT! This book is worth reading/listening to all the way through. Don’t spoil the surprises in store for you.
Should you purchase the audiobook, I found Jeremy Davidson did a great job as the reader. He has a very pleasant voice to listen to and does great with creating unique voices for each character.
I would highly recommend Don’t Go to anyone who is looking for a surprising thriller with twist and turns all along the way. Pick up your copy online or in stores now. Let me know what you think!
I received a copy of Don’t Go in audiobook for my review. All opinions are 100% my own.
