One of the worst parts of going on a trip is not knowing much about your final destination. Unless you are visiting family or friends that know about the area, you can wind up feeling completely lost. Even with a great tour guide, you still may miss out on seeing things of interest to you.
This month we are taking a road trip to Dallas to spend some time with my husband’s side of the family. While I am very familiar with Texas, being my home state and all, I am not well acquainted with everything to do in Dallas.
Because of this, I have decided to go in well prepared by using the website Gogobot.com
The first thing I think of when traveling is where is my family going to stay upon arrival. I am not one to spend a crazy amount of money on a hotel room. Not because I wouldn’t like to sometimes, but because I would rather spend money on activities with my family.
After searching the Gogobot.com website, I have decided that the Hyatt Regency Dallas looks like a great place to stay. I was able to view different hotels by price, popularity and class.
This particular hotel is four stars and priced less than $100 a night. The thing I really liked about it is that it is close to all the activities downtown.
Next, I wanted to see the places I thought we would enjoy eating at as a family. I have to admit that I NEVER visit Texas without having some good ole Mexican food. So, the first thing I looked for was the best reviews on Mexican restaurants.
It didn’t take long to find Mi Cocina. It is rated #5 in Dallas restaurants and from the reviews, sounds delicious! This place will be a definite stop.
I used the option to pick restaurants by cuisine to find other eating spots that I am hoping my kids will enjoy. There were some familiar ones like IHOP, while I also found a couple of new places.
I have added Lucky’s Cafe to our stops for lunch as well as Hattie’s. I am sure these will both be as wonderful as the reviews say.
Lastly and my favorite thing to find are places to check out in a new area. Since our time is going to be short, we have to make the most of our time.
Here is what is going to make it to the list of fun. White Rock Lake looks like the perfect place to go for a nice time outdoors. We can hike and have a picnic. I think the kids will enjoy having some nice weather since it has gotten cold here.
I have a five year old son who loves trains, so a visit to the Museum of the American Railroad is in order. We always try to find local train hotspots wherever we visit.
Finally, we can’t visit Dallas without a trip to the Galleria Dallas. Okay, I guess we could, but what would be the fun in that.
So there it is, my first truly planned out travel plans I may have ever made. It actually feels good to know we won’t be winging it this time around.
If I have missed any of the hot spots you would recommend, please feel free to share.
