I have been very surprised by the latest children’s movies coming to theaters. Currently, there is ParaNorman that from the trailer doesn’t look that appealing to me as a parent of younger aged children. I even asked my son if he was interested in seeing it and it was a resounding, “NO!” I guess I should be glad since I wouldn’t have let him see it anyway.
Now on October 5th, we have Frankenweenie hitting the theaters. Seriously, are they trying to scare children so they can have nightmares? From the previews I have seen of it, it looks like a Pet Sematary (Stephen King) made for children. Let’s just say we all know how that turned out for the poor cat, Church.
Now I know that I will probably get a lot of slack for writing this, because Tim Burton is such a creative mind. So please don’t leave ugly comments, because I’m not disagreeing with that. I can even see that ParaNorman may teach some good lessons in a creepy, talk to dead people kind of way.
What I am disagreeing with is the type of movies that are being created and marketed towards children. I hope that the next movies to come out will be a little more appropriate for all the ages they are targeting.
I believe that every parent should make their own choices about what is right for their kiddos, but as for us, we will have to wait these two out.
Have any of you seen ParaNorman? Do you plan to see Frankenweenie? I would love to hear from people that have actually see them….
