Praying for Strangers by River Jordan

REVIEW WRITTEN BY LINDA RHOTEN
I believe this book is awe inspiring. I honestly believe this book could change my life and the lives of many other people.
Synopsis:
River Jordan is having a hard time focusing on what God wants her to do in the 2008 holiday season. River is someone who usually by Thanksgiving is considering her New Year’s Resolutions. She sees her resolutions as a way to complete herself, to make up for all the things she has not accomplished in a lifetime but can now master in a year!
It does not usually happen that way, but she loves a fresh new year to start over. However, this year is different, she does not care about her resolutions at all. This year she has two sons who are being deployed at the same time, one is heading to Iraq and one to Afghanistan. River has nothing on her mind but their deployment, their faces and the constant thought of them coming home again.
She is not sleeping well, she has started grinding her teeth again and the thought of making a resolution is just not on her mind. Creating a wonderful Christmas seems to be the most important thing River can think about this year, after all this could be their last Christmas as a whole family.
Then while standing in her kitchen one day, it happened, a resolution came to her in the same way a title for a new novel would or the plot for a story. It spoke to her heart and this is what it was…pray for a stranger every day.
She quickly put that thought out of her mind. She did not have time for New Year’s Resolutions and praying for strangers was not at the top of list right now. The only thing on the top of her list was her boys surviving the year and coming home safe!!
This book is about a real person, with real thoughts and desires. However, as the book proceeds, the idea of praying for a stranger every day is something River just cannot get away from. I have not finished the book, but I am enjoying every page.
In this book, River meets so many people and hears so many interesting stories! I have to say again, it is just an awe inspiring book! If it does not make you want to pray for a stranger or at least care a little more for them, it will surprise me!
This would make a great gift for the reader in your life. This would also be a fabulous first read for someone who is not necessarily a reader.
I have really enjoyed reading this book and cannot wait to get back to it every evening! I hope I take what I have read in this book and apply it to my life.
In a disconnected world where we hardly say hello to a stranger and many of us do not even know our neighbors, this is a way to make a difference as one person. And as we make a difference for someone else, we could also realize that we have given ourselves an amazing gift as well. Read this book and then pass it along to a friend!

I received the book Praying for Strangers in order to write my honest review.
