Encouraging kids to learn while at home can be quite hard unless it involves some type of fun. Can you blame them? I know I personally enjoy having fun more than doing something that feels like work.
In our home, one of the ways that I have found to encourage learning is through LeapFrog.
LeapFrog does such a wonderful job of staying on top of what kids want and enjoy. It is probably why they are one of the first educational products my 2 and 4 year old reach for when they want to be entertained.
I recently invited several of my sons friends over to engage with the new LeapFrog LeapPad learning tablet. The LeapPad learning tablet is like your child’s own personal iPad, at least that is what my son thinks.
The LeapPad learning tablet we were sent came loaded with apps, a Disney Cars eBook, game and Letter Factory Video. I couldn’t believe how the kids could watch a full video on the LeapPad. It is great for car travel. The Letter Factory has always been one of my favorite videos for teaching children letters and sounds.
For the play date with my sons friends, I set up areas on the kitchen table with all our different LeapFrog products. We own the Leapster Explorer, Tag Reading System, Tag Junior and our newest addition, the LeapPad. I figured since the kids were younger, it would be better for there to be several products to play with and entertain them.
One of the things I love as a mom, is that several of the apps/games can be used on both the Leapster Explorer and LeapPad. It allows me to only have to purchase it once, rather than for both units individually.
The kids enjoyed moving from station to station and trying out the different LeapFrog products. A favorite game among the kids was the Roly Poly Picnic, as for the apps, they loved the Pet Pad. I actually had to plug into the computer several times to upload more treats and shampoo for their pets.
You can acquire points to purchase the treats and shampoo by playing the online games that LeapFrog offers.
If you own a Smartphone, then you know all about downloading apps. With the LeapPad and Explorer, you can do the same thing. LeapFrog offers several different apps that you can purchase online by visiting their app center.
The LeapFrog App Center allows you to purchase and download games, eBooks, videos and more to your LeapPad or Leapster Explorer. To purchase items from the App Center you need:
The LeapFrog Connect application*
A LeapFrog Parent Account
An internet connection
An accepted form of payment, including:
*App Center Download Cards or Codes
*Leaplet Download Cards or Codes
*A credit card (credit cards may not be accepted in all countries)
The kids and I browsed the apps and decided on Alphabet Stew. Alphabet Stew helps your children with letters and building words. On the LeapPad you are able to set up multiple accounts on the unit and select the learning level for each. I love this feature because it allows each of your children to learn at their own comfort level.
I definitely think after the play date that there were a couple of moms who will definitely be purchasing the new LeapPad for their child. It’s fun, educational and the kids enjoyed it….. What’s not to love?

I participated in this campaign through MomSelect. I received product to host my LeapFrog Party.
