Watching as my son grows and begins to really enjoy reading has been so exciting. Not only for me, but for him as well. One of our favorite times together is when we snuggle up and read a book.
He has recently started sounding out words on his own. He is so proud of himself as he says each letter and makes the sounds they make. Of course as his mommy, I think he is pretty special too.
We were sent a couple of sets of Bob Books by Scholastic. One is for kindergarten and one is for first grade. They are called Bob Books Sight Words. Sight words are words that children are often unable to be read phonetically, but instead they recognize by sight. Some examples would be was, are and out.
Each Sight Words box includes 10 original books, 30 flashcards, and a parent guide. They come in a very cute box that stores all the contents nice and neatly. When my son wants to read them, he just brings me the whole box.
I had always heard of Bob Books, but had never owned any of my own. I feel badly now seeing how much he enjoys them. Keep in mind that Bob Books Sight Words keeps the stories simple and easy to read. If you are looking for great storylines, you may be slightly let down. However, if you are looking for your child to learn sight words in a way they will enjoy; these books are terrific!
