Promote Self-Esteem in Young Girls!

Guest post by Wilson Guzman. Thank you so much for providing my readers with this valuable information!

New to the social media realm is a campaign geared to help young girls achieve the very best in all they do, from sports to education to extra-curricular activities. The Marta Power of 10 campaign, which has presence on Facebook, Twitter and YouTube, was created in association with Marta Vieira da Silva, ‘the top female soccer player in the world according to FIFATM’, to promote self-esteem among young girls and empower them to be the best that they can be.

The Marta Power of 10 campaign kicked off on June 19th at the Pioneer Stadium in Hayward, California during the FC Gold Pride vs. Boston Breakers (1-0) soccer match. Attendees at the soccer match experienced the online communities and had the opportunity to meet Marta, where she spoke to them about staying motivated. “Through the Marta Power of 10 campaign, my only hope is that I serve as a great mentor and role model so that I can inspire others to reach their dreams, no matter how big or small,” Marta stated.

The Facebook page, in particular, has content geared towards parents so that they too can get informed on healthy eating tips, nutritional information and ideas to encourage their daughters to be active and have healthy food options. It is very important for young girls to be active from an early age as studies show that girls who play sports benefit from an array of real benefits according to The Women’s Sports Foundation Report: Her Life Depend On It: Sport, Physical Activity and the Health and Well-Being of American Girls, published by the Women’s Sports Foundation; such as:

*Learning teamwork, goal setting and leadership skills
*More likely to do well academically and have a higher success rate of graduating high school
*Less likely to get pregnant as teenagers, develop osteoporosis and have a decreased percentage of developing breast cancer
*Overall improvement of quality of life

The campaign was inspired by the meaning of the #10 in soccer, which is assigned to the jerseys of the elite players around the world, including Marta’s FC Gold Pride uniform. Furthermore, the number 10 in Latin-American countries, is perceived as a scholarship achievement; as most of the academic grades are measured on a scale of 1 to 10 – 10 being the highest.

Overall, these new virtual communities are a great tool for coaches, parents and young girls. This is just the beginning to achieve success…let’s learn, play and achieve! You can learn more about the Marta Power of 10 by visiting the following social media Web sites:
