Everybody Needs a MOMcation!

When I boarded the plane in Colorado to head to Cabo, I actually almost got back off the plane. I think I was feeling a lot of things at the time. Some of the emotions were fear, guilt, anxiety about being so far away from my family and insecurity about meeting new people. I had never left my children and to be honest I was quite sure they could not survive without me. Maybe it was even more the other way around. I wasn’t sure if I could survive without them.

It took me stepping onto the beach of Cabo San Lucas to realize that every mom needs a MOMcation. I actually realized several things this trip. Here are a few of them:

Doesn’t the water look like something off a postcard?

1. It is okay to have fun and enjoy yourself once in a while without your children.

2. My children and I will survive with a little time apart.

3. Taking care of myself and my needs is just as important as taking care of my children’s needs.

4. My husband is not as clueless as I try to think he is when it comes to caring for OUR children. He is actually pretty great at it.

5. It is good for me and my children to gain a little independence from each other. It makes us stronger.

6. Making new friends is not as scary as it may seem. There are actually pretty great people in this world.

7. Trying new adventures can bring you some amazing memories!

What I feel now as I fly back home to Colorado is a sense of pride in myself. I guess you could say that I may have even grown up a little during this trip. I overcame all of the emotions I was feeling on the flight out and became a better person with fun and exciting stories to share with my family. I hope I even made a few new friends in the process.

The moral of this story is: The next time you have the opportunity to do something for yourself, take it. You might just find it was exactly what you needed for YOU! Everybody needs a MOMcation now and then. So go and ENJOY!!

You are one brave Mama! I would have ALL the same fears. But I think they would disappear, too, after seeing that beach and that beautiful water! Sounds dreamy!

Good for YOU, Laurie! 'just looking at your photo helps me relax. aaaah peaceful…

I'll be in a similar "boat" come the 28th. I'll be leaving my babies for THREE nights—the longest I've ever been without 'em to hang out with friends (and SIL) at the Scentsy convention in DENVER. 'been a LONG time since I've done full-on "girl" stuff and not just mama and/or biz owner stuff and I am REALLY looking forward to it (trying not to think about the missin' the kiddos quite yet). :)

Hopefully I'll get to meet a new cyber-friend in person, there, too.

I have never been anywhere without my family, but trust me I would love to. I'm so glad you got sometime to yourself and had a fantastic time. You're completely right….everyone including dads need time away. Now when is my opportunity?

i need a momcation so badly, more importantly my spirit needs a beach whether i am with my family or not. being here in colorado as well (but growing up near a beach) really throws me out of balance.

  5. Bean Sprouts says:

I didn't realize you live in Colorado :)
That water looks amazing…..I sure could use a "Momcation" but I can't imagine leaving my little one behind….must have been hard!
    Glad you all survived :)

    Good for you!
I've been away from my kids a number of times with my husband (SOOO important as a couple….and WONDERFUL!), but also on girls' trips :)

Kids appreciate me more, and I appreciate me AND them more ;)

  7. Momma Such says:

So glad you were able to get away and enjoy yourself for a bit. You know, I'm always telling other moms that they need to take a little "me" time, but I never really do so myself! I'm going and getting my hair done tomorrow! :)

  8. Susan Fobes says:

Momcation…I like the sound of that. Sign me up!

  9. Xenia says:

Hold on here, slow down. What?? Did I miss the fact that you headed down to Cabo for a Momcation and you DIDN'T INVITE ME TO COME WITH YOU? Laurie, we have some serious talking to do.

  10. BabeeLove says:

I'm so happy for you! Sounds like you had a great time :)

  11. Colleen Lanin at Travel Mamas says:

I love this story! It's so true- we all do deserve a MOMcation! I'm so glad I got to meet you in Cabo! I told you that you were going to come away a changed person from the trip & it sounds like you truly did. I'm glad I got to be along for the ride…especially for the parasailing-through-the-sky ride!
